Dr Hetta Howes

Dr Hetta Howes is a lecturer in English Literature at City University of London, specialising in medieval literature and history, and especially gender studies and the history of the emotions. Her book <em>Transformative Waters in Late-Medieval Literature</em> (Boydell and Brewer, 2021) considers the transformative affects that water has on women and their imaginations in the late Middle Ages. As a BBC/AHRC New Generation Thinker, she is a regular broadcaster for BBC Radio 3 and Radio 4, both as a presenter for the Arts &amp; Ideas podcast and as developer for a number of documentaries about the medieval world. She holds an undergraduate degree in English Literature and MPhil in Medieval Literature from Cambridge University and a PhD in medieval women's writing from Queen Mary, University of London
